Quantum Future Academy 2020

Today's insights for tomorrow's experts

Are you a student and/or quantum enthusiast in Italy?

Would you like to win a paid trip to a one week academy in Berlin, where you will learn about quantum technologies and expand your international network?

Quantum Future Academy 2020

As quantum technologies move out of research labs and into the real world, the challenges of engineering, development, and commercialization of these technologies become increasingly relevant. Those with ideas for such quantum commercial development must also keep in mind business models and markets for these technologies. The 2020 Quantum Future Academy (QFA) will foster this development by providing an overview of the current state-of-play regarding quantum technological research and development.

The Quantum Future Academy takes place 1-7 November 2020 in Berlin.

What is the QFA?

During the week of the Quantum Future Academy 2020, participants will visit world-leading companies and research institutes and hear talks and lectures by experts and entrepreneurs in the field. This will be coupled with interactive workshops, networking, and discussions with these experts, entrepreneurs, as well as political representatives. Finally, there will be a robust social program with evening events and excursions.

Transport to and from Berlin and Academy fees will be fully paid.

How to apply

Italy will send two participants to the 2020 QFA, and interested students at Italian universities can indicate their interest by applying online by 28 July 2020. (If you are not an Italian resident, find out if you can apply in your country of residence here). Ideally, you should be in the second half of your Bachelor’s study or in a Master’s program, and you should be studying natural sciences or engineering. To get the most out of the Academy, you need basic knowledge of quantum mechanics. Note that applicants outside of this suggested range can submit applications, but they should provide information in the application that motivates their selection. All applicants need a basic understanding of quantum mechanics.

Eligible applicants will then be invited to explore a quantum challenge provided by the world-class citizen and crowd science project "ScienceAtHome" run by Aarhus University in Denmark. For this challenge, applicants will use world-class quantum visualization and simulation tools (Quantum Composer, SpinDrops, or IBM’s Qiskit) to explore a quantum scenario relevant to quantum research and technology development. This can either be your own Bachelor’s or Master’s project, or you can explore one of our predefined challenges. By spending a day or two exploring the wonders of quantum mechanics, you can win a fully-paid trip to Berlin!
